Funeral Cards
Who writes, Remains - Proverb
Funeral cards are often the final steps on funeral preparations checklist. If you're looking for cards in bulk to offer to friends and family that attended the funeral here's an idea of what to expect.
Funeral cards are usually sold in packages of 25, 50, 75, 125 and over. The average funeral cost in cards will vary depending on the model, and extras that you may want to include and of course the higher the quantity the less expensive it is per card.
Type of Funeral Cards
The first step is to select a model that represents the deceased person the best. This could be represented in various ways. For example: a picture of a favorite funeral flower or funeral flower arrangments on the front,a religious symbol, a dove and so on. On some models you can include a funeral picture of the deceased on the front of the card with the year of birth and year of death below his/her name.
The funeral card itself can be like a traditional card opening from right to left with text on the inside, it can open from bottom to top or can even be in the form of a bookmark. It's a question of preference.
Choice of Text
Once you've decided on the form of the card itself, now you can determine the text you'd like to have. Most cards come with a pre-written text, however, be aware that you can also personalize the text.
Some ideas you can use to include in the text is funeral poetry, part of a funeral speech that was expressed during the funeral wake, funeral quotes or even funeral messages that were received from the funeral florist sent by a friend funeral.
All funeral messages can be expressed in so many different ways, there's no right way or wrong way. Whatever text you choose, remember it must fit you. Speak from the heart even if it happens to be a funeral prayer. Here's a famous funeral quote from John F. Kennedy's funeral that had originally been a part of some of Kennedy's writings and speeches "Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions, and where there is no vision the people perish". Funeral Music may be an easier way for you to relate to and express your message through words from a song.
Choice of Font
The font type that is used as well as the color is usually predetermined with some models. Some models will allow you to change the font type and color if you prefer.
Individual Funeral Cards
Another idea that in my opinion is helpful especially when young children are involved is to have the children write a note either in the form of a letter or in a card that they can each, one at a time, gently insert into the coffin and lay a single rose on top. This thoughtful act really is beneficial to the children in helping them in the grieving process and coping with a funeral in general.
Here's a funeral poem a child wrote for a military funeral:
Dignity of the Freedom
When we ride and run with courage, our friends have all fallen with devotion.
As we fight for the freedom light. As all is not lost yet and we must fight for our freedom as bright as the stars above.
Thank you for your courage. Thank you for the freedom, for the dignity, for the duty and the devotion.
For the soldiers who fight to still bring light.
