Funeral Messages

All funeral messages can be expressed in so many different ways, there's no right way or wrong way. It can be expressed as a funeral eulogy either written or even funeral speeches Funeral poetry is also a favorite.

Whatever means of expression you choose, remember it must fit you. Speak from the heart even if it happens to be a funeral prayer.

A funeral message shouldn't be confused with a funeral notice also known as an obituary.

Funeral Message Here's a famous funeral quote from John F. Kennedy's funeral that had originally been a part of some of Kennedy's writings and speeches

"Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions, and where there is no vision the people perish".

Funeral Music may be an easier way for you to relate to and express your message through song. Don't worry you don't have to be the one who sings. "Ave Maria" is a very popular traditional musical piece to be used.

Here are some ideas for your funeral preparations. A funeral prayer can be said before the procession to a religious ceremony. You can make arrangements with the religious officiator so funeral speeches or funeral readings can be delivered during a religious ceremony.

Another idea that in my opinion is helpful especially when young children are involved is to have the children write funeral messages either in the form of a letter or in funeral cards .

They can each, one at a time, gently insert into the coffin and lay a single rose on top. This thoughtful act really is beneficial to the children in helping them in the grieving process and coping with a funeral in general.

Funeral Poems

This poem was read at the funeral of Princess Diana

Turn Again to Life

If I should die and leave you here a while,
be not like others sore undone,
who keep long vigil by the silent dust.
For my sake turn again to life and smile,
nerving thy heart and trembling hand
to do something to comfort other hearts than thine.
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mineand I perchance may therein comfort you.

by Mary Lee Hall, read at the funeral of Princess Diana by her eldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale

I did not die

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hushI am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Funeral Prayers

Prayers for those who Mourn that you can use as a template for your own funeral messages:

God of mercy,
as we mourn the death of (name)
and we thank you for his/her life,
we also remember times when it was hard for us to understand,
to forgive,
and to be forgiven.
Heal our memories of hurt and failure,
and bring us to forgiveness and lifein Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Father, the death of (name) brings an emptiness into our lives
We are separated from him/herand feel broken and disturbed.
Give us confidence that he/she is safe
and his/her life complete with you,
and bring us together at the last
to the wholeness and fullness of your presence in heaven,
where your saints and angels enjoy you for ever and ever.
Amen
